The Canadian Kennel Club has official breed standards for every one of its recognised breeds.
These standards give a detailed “word picture” of the characteristics that allow the breed to perform the function for which it was bred. These standards include the important aspects of structure, temperament and movement.
Some of the standards include a section on the history of the breed, describing the place of origin and the original work done by the breed.
It is important that breeders and dog show exhibitors be familiar with their breed standard.
